Door Lock

The San Juan Sunrise – Sol Studio uses a Yale Nest Connect Smartlock. You will be given a personal individual code to open the front door on your check-in day.

PLEASE DO NOT SHARE IT WITH ANYONE OTHER THAN YOUR GROUP.

To unlock the door: press the YALE logo on top of the lock to activate it. After the lights turn on, introduce your 4-digit door code, press the check sign ✔ immediately after introducing the 4-digit code. The door lock will unlock. Wait until all the mechanical noises are done and turn the knob. If by any chance, your door code or the lock does not work, please call us immediately.

Your code will expire at the time of your check-out or the time that you state in your registration.

TO LOCK THE DOOR EVERY TIME YOU LEAVE: Simply PRESS THE YALE LOGO
To lock the door from inside the apartment, simply turn the back knob.

IMPORTANT: Make sure you have the keys with you! If you forget to bring the keys with you; you will have to buzz again to #2600. If you have an emergency, please call our property manager, Balthazar (number will be provided to you or found here).

You Will Need to Get the Main
Building Door Key

Once you are in the apartment.

  • You will find the building front door key set hanging on a key hook just above the refrigerator.
  • (The keychain contains a Puerto Rico key chain souvenir attached).

This key will open the front lobby door for late-night entry into the front of the building and the same key opens the glass doors to the elevators.

To open late at night, insert the key on the lock to the right of the main lobby door. You will hear a buzz when open. The same applies to the entry into the elevators (same key).

IMPORTANT: Please return the keys to the same location before you check out.

Drinking-Water

San Juan has excellent drinking water that comes from a variety of reservoirs above and underground from the nearby mountains and is distributed by the island’s main (only) utility, Acueductos de Puerto Rico (APP).

APP abides by USDA and EPA standards and water is processed and tested before distributed just as it is in the mainland U.S.

In addition, Sol Studio has a Brio & Magic Mountain Water  Two Stage Water Purification & Filtration System under the sink. Simply turn the smaller side knob and get filtered water from the smaller bar faucet.

We have an additional filter in the water pitcher located in the refrigerator which we fill with filtered water from the sink and then cool in the fridge.

PLEASE BRING REUSABLE WATER BOTTLES TO REDUCE PLASTIC WASTE.

TV

Our 52” Vizio Smart TV has basic cable (provided by Liberty Cable) and in addition, the ability to smartcast programs or videos from your phone or other WiFi connecting devices such as laptop or smartphones.

In order to operate the TV, you will see 2 controllers,

  • the larger one is for the cable titled Liberty at the bottom of the remote.
  • The smaller remote control is for the TV.

To turn the TV on Use the cable remote and press the first button on the upper left [SYSTEM ON/OFF]

IMPORTANT:

DO NOT USE CABLE REMOTE TO ADJUST VOLUME INSTEAD USE THE TV REMOTE

USE CABLE REMOTE ONLY TO NAVIGATE CHANNELS AND TO TURN ON/OFF

Use the TV remote to adjust volume ONLY

If you receive a message stating that there is NO INPUT. You are most likely in the wrong input. The cable TV is set to HDMI-4. You should only be using HDMI-4 or Smartcast if you would like to stream from your phone.

If you need to adjust the INPUT for any reason, please use the smaller TV remote pressing the first button on the upper left [INPUT]. Continue to press the button until you land in the correct input.

Air Conditioning

We have a powerful AC. In addition,  we have a small table fan that you can use. PLEASE TURN OFF AIR CONDITIONER & FAN WHEN YOU LEAVE.

During North America’s winter months (December-March), Puerto Rican weather is perfect!  Daily highs are in the upper 70s to lows 80s. During the evening, the weather is a comfortable upper 60s to low 70s.

Being at the top, the breeze in our corner property is great, hence not needing the air conditioner except overnight when I do recommend you close the windows to lower the blinds (unless you want to welcome the sunrise in full force).

During the summer, San Juan weather heats up. Sometimes the weather is in the upper 90s. Surprisingly, the breeze makes it nice up at the top during the summer. You will need the AC in the evening.

Bathroom

Shower

PLEASE DO NOT PUSH THE SHOWER GLASS DOOR HARD. IT IS FRAGILE AND CAN EASILY BREAK.

  • The lower handle is to control the rainwater showerhead.
  • The top knob is too switch to use the hose showerhead.

IMPORTANT: You must turn the shower handle slowly to get hot water. If you turn the shower handle quickly you will most likely cooler water.

Toilet

The apartment is equipped with a small square toilet with a small flush (small button) and a large flush (larger button) located on top of the toilet.

Please minimize the amount of toilet paper that you dispose of in the toilet.

The window located above the vanity area does not open.

Please use the metal corner shelves to put your toiletries. Due to our limited space, we don’t have many nooks to place items.

DO NOT THROW BABY WIPES OR ANY OTHER ITEMS INTO THE TOILET.

Towels are located in a basket underneath the bathroom sink. Please try reusing your towel as much as possible to reduce the environmental impact on the water for washing and cleaning products contamination.

Kitchen

Our kitchen is fully stocked with pots, pans, plates, and cutlery.

We have an electric 4-burner stovetop. There is no oven, but there is a stainless steel microwave oven over the stove that has oven cooking-like features.

The microwave has the ability to do two-tier cooking but the rack should not be used.
PLEASE DO NOT USE THE WIRE RACK IN THE MICROWAVE!

For your safety, the rack is stored in the large drawer underneath the stove. If you would like to use it, please refer to the microwave instruction manual located in the Apartment Blue Binder located on top of the work desk.

  • Do not store rack in the oven
  • Do not allow the rack to touch the walls or the bottom (will cause damage)
  • For normal microwave cooking, the wire rack should be removed from the oven.

If you choose to cook, please consider that we have a smoke vent located underneath the microwave. Find the vent button on the microwave pad.

PLEASE OPEN WINDOWS WHEN COOKING TO MINIMIZE STRONG ODORS IN CONSIDERATION FOR OTHERS AND TO VENTILATE THE SPACE.

Cutlery, washcloths, and other kitchen utensils such as spatulas, bottle open/corkscrew, etc. are located in the small drawer just below the stovetop.

We have various wine glasses and other breakable items located on the shelves.

For the safety of everyone: PLEASE REPORT ANY BROKEN GLASS SO THAT WE CAN THOROUGHLY SEARCH FOR GLASS.
We do not want anyone stepping on glass. Thank you.

Apartment Trash Bins

Located underneath the kitchen sink and near the working desk.
To dispose of your trash, please see the last section on this page below titled, TRASH.

PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE FOOD IN THE APARTMENT TRASH FOR LONG OR WHEN YOU CHECK OUT.

NOT ONLY DOES IT SPOIL QUICKLY IN THE TROPICS BUT IT ALSO ATTRACTS BUGS. WE THANK YOU GREATLY.

Refrigerator

PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE ANY FOOD IN THE FRIDGE
WE KINDLY ASK YOU TO LEAVE THE FRIDGE CLEAN AND THAT YOU THROW ALL FOOD ITEMS OUT BEFORE YOU LEAVE.

Washing Dishes

Our studio apartment previously did not have a kitchen nor sink. To insert a sink into the tiny space available, we had to experiment on the best way to insert our kitchen sink. The problem we saw, was that there was no sufficient counter space where we could leave the dish drying rack.
Our solution is a foldable towel dish drying rack.

PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE DIRTY DISHES. WASH ALL YOUR DISHES BEFORE LEAVING.

Our recommendation when washing dishes is to unfold the dish drying towel rack on the kitchen island and placing your dishes on it as you wash.

When you are done washing dishes, please use one washcloth located underneath the kitchen stovetop to completely dry and to store dishes away.

Listening to Music

Our apartment has a Douani A5 Bluetooth speaker located by the kitchen island next to the paper towels. To play music using your smartphone or mp3 player, simply connect the Bluetooth speaker to your device. You should connect to A5. Don’t forget that you can also stream music using our Vizio Smart TV.  Please don’t listen to music extremely loud. We would like you to consider respecting our neighbors and visitors to our building.
Please refrain from playing loud music after 11 P.M.

Bluetooth speaker to the right and the towel dish drying rack to the left on the kitchen island.

Windows & Blinds

The studio contains two windows each with a rolling chain blind. We appreciate a dark room when sleeping and we have tried to the best our ability to create a dark environment. Despite our best intentions, there is a need for additional coverage. We have in addition to the blinds, blackout curtains. The curtain works well for the window by the working desk but not so well for the main window over the AC unit. The problem is that the curtains are too long and they will end up covering the AC unit. Our recommendation is that you close the curtains partially to make sure that the curtains don’t cover the AC unit. You will see that the curtains will be blown by the AC air if you fully close.

When you leave for a day out or when you check out. Please close all the windows and leave just one window from both sides of the apartment cracked open a little bit. It can get very windy and rainy out of nowhere.

Cleaning

Should you decide to clean, we have some cleaning supplies located in the main hall closet. You will find, a broom, mop, and vacuum for your use.
Please let us know if there is an accident, stain, or other mishaps so that we can address it when we clean. We thank you for your honesty.

Trash

In the apartment, the main trash bin is located underneath the kitchen sink. You may empty all smaller trash bins in the main trash and dispose of the trash in our floor’s trash bin located by the cargo elevators (see below).

Unfortunately, our building does not enforce recycling and there is no specific recycling pick-up. If you do so feel passionate about the environment and recycling as I do, there is a recycling drop off and site located near the building. The recycling drop-off is located in Parque Central (Central Park), not even a 5-minute car drive.
